Boros finished his major league playing career with the Cubs and the Reds from 1963 to 1965. Later in his career, he served as manager of the A's and the Padres.

Ed Brinkman (born Dec. 8, 1941 – died Sept. 30, 2008) played shortstop from 1961 to 1975, most prominently as a member of the Washington Senators and the Detroit Tigers.
Brinkman was a light-hitting, defensive specialist who spent the first 10 years of his career with the 1961 expansion team the Washington Senators, before being traded to the Detroit Tigers where he helped lead the team to the 1972 American League Eastern Division title and was voted 1972 Tiger of the Year. He won the American League Gold Glove Award in 1972, and made his only All-Star team in 1973 while with the Tigers. Brinkman ended his career playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and the New York Yankees.

When Bunning retired, he had the second-highest total career strikeouts in Major League history; he currently ranks 18th.

Tony Cuccinello (born Nov. 8, 1907 – died Sept. 21, 1995) was a baseball second baseman and third baseman, then a longtime coach. He played for the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Bees / Braves, New York Giants and Chicago White Sox between 1930 and 1945. As a major leaguer, he led National League second basemen in assists and double plays three times and hit .300 or better five times, with a career high .315 in 1931. He was selected for MLB's first All-Star Game, played on July 6, 1933 at Comiskey Park, batting as a pinch-hitter for Carl Hubbell in the ninth inning. He also was selected for the 1938 All-Star Game. In his 15-season career, Cuccinello was a .280 hitter with 94 home runs and 884 RBI in 1,704 games. His 1,729 career hits also included 334 doubles and 46 triples. As a coach with Mayo Smith's Tigers, Cuccinello earned a ring with the 1968 World Series champions.

In the 1972 ALCS Series, the A's Bert Campaneris came to bat. LeGrow's first pitch hit Campaneris in the ankle. Campaneris staggered for a moment, glared at LaGrow, then flung his bat toward the mound; LaGrow was able to duck in time and avoid getting hit. Both benches cleared.

Dick McAuliffe (born Nov. 29, 1939 – died May 13, 2016) played shortstop and second baseman for the Detroit Tigers (1960–73) and Boston Red Sox (1974–75). He was known for his unusual batting stance. McAuliffe played a key role in the Tigers' 1968 World Championship season. He led the American League with 95 runs scored, and showed power with 50 extra base hits. He also tied a major league record by going the entire 1968 season without grounding into a double play and was the first American League player to do so. He finished seventh in the American League MVP voting, behind teammates Denny McLain (1st), Bill Freehan (2nd), and Willie Horton (4th).

Don Mossi (born Jan. 11, 1929 – died July 19, 2019) was a left-handed control pitcher whose strikeout-to-walk ratio was regularly among the league leaders (he led the league in 1961). He was traded to the Detroit Tigers in 1958 for Billy Martin. He went 17–9 with a 3.36 ERA in 1959. In 1960 he went 9–8, albeit on a club that was well below .500, with an ERA of 3.47. Mossi pitched the greatest season of his career in 1961, going 15–7 with a 2.96 ERA on a Tigers club that recorded over 100 wins. He retired with 101 wins, 50 saves, and a career earned run average of 3.43.

JOE NIEKRO (born Nov. 7, 1944 – died Oct. 27, 2006) pitched from 1967 to 1988 for seven different teams, primarily for the Houston Astros, during a 22-year baseball career. He was the younger brother of Hall of Fame pitcher Phil Niekro. He blossomed into a dominant pitcher as he perfected his knuckleball in Houston, going 21–11 in 1979 and 20–12 in 1980, to become the first Astros pitcher to win 20 games in consecutive seasons. He also made the National League All-Star team in 1979, a season in which he led the league with his 21 wins and five shutouts, and ended second in voting for the Cy Young Award.

Billy Rogell (born Nov. 24, 1904 – died Aug. 9, 2003) played 14 years in Major League Baseball, primarily as a shortstop for the Detroit Tigers. He made his major league debut in 1925 and played his last game in 1940. Rogell was the Tigers' Opening Day shortstop in 1932 season, a position he would hold for the next eight years. A sure-handed fielder, he and Hall of Fame double-play partner Charlie Gehringer would give the Tigers one of the best keystone-combinations in baseball history. After his playing career, he spent 36 years as a member of the Detroit City Council.

He was the catcher in Game 2 when Oakland Athletics shortstop Bert Campaneris threw the bat at Tigers pitcher Lerrin LaGrow after being hit on the ankle.

Mickey Stanley (born July 20, 1942) debuted in 1964. He remained with the Tigers for 15 years and appeared in 1,516 games with the Tigers, 1,175 of them as a center fielder. He won four American League Gold Glove Awards (1968, 1969, 1970, and 1973) and ranked among baseball's all-time leaders in career fielding percentage by an outfielder. While generally a center fielder, when it came time for the games leading up to the 1968 World Series, Detroit manager Mayo Smith moved Stanley to shortstop, which ultimately paid off in a world championship.

A four-time All-Star, his major league career encompassed 14 years as a catcher, 11 as a manager and 28 as a scout. Gus Triandos (born July 30, 1930; died Mar. 28, 2013) was most prominently a member of the Baltimore Orioles where he was a four-time All-Star player. He also played for the Yankees, the Tigers, the Phillies and the Astros. Triandos is notable for being the first catcher in MLB history to catch a no-hitter in both the American League and the National League, catching a no-hitter by Hoyt Wilhelm in 1958 while on the Orioles in the AL and Jim Bunning's perfect game while on the Phillies in the NL. With the Tigers in 1963, he shared catching duties with Bill Freehan and led American League catchers with a .996 fielding percentage.
